Italy to increase its PV goal to 1,500 MW by 2012

0
The Italian government is drafting a Decree to enlarge the current annual quotas applicable to PV facilities entitled to feed-in tariff, according to some Italian press sources which have quoted Mr Fabrizio Fabbri, a Technician in the Italian Department of Environment. The feed-in tariff, introduced in June 2005, amounts to 0.50 euros/kWh, some three times greater than the average rate received by Italian utilities. However, as in Spain, the introduction of this new scheme has triggered a snowball of projects, showing that the national goal might be a bit short at the end.

Italy's current goal is 300 MW by 2010, or around 85 MW per year. Some Italian press sources have stated that the Government plans to increase it to 1,500 MW by 2012.

A draft is expected for November. If the consultation period sees no obstacles, the Decree might enter into operation by January 2007.
